The Punjab Government announced that 16 Year Old will get Motorcycle license in Punjab. The Government has made major change that teen aged 16 will now be allowed to apply for motorcycle license. Under the new policy, 16 years old can get smart card and full motorcycle license. The Government take this step after widespread public concern over minor being arrested, fined or handcuffed during recent crackdown of traffic violations. Many of them are school going children.
Under first time offences like not wearing helmet. The authorities will now issue warning rather than imposing fines or FIRs. Previously, under the older law, drivers of motorcycle needed to be at least 18 years old. But after the crackdown, new law introduced that 16 year old can get smart card and easily apply for motorcycle license. The reason behind this step is the recent traffic crackdown in Punjab which results in more than 4,600 cases and nearly 3,100 arrests within 72 Hours, which includes many schoolchildren.

So, if you are 16 or soon turning 16 and you want to ride a bike, you can officially apply for a motorcycle license. It is still important to follow all traffic rules. Especially safety measures like wearing a helmet. The system intends to teach responsible driving rather than punish young riders harshly. Parents or guardians are encouraged to guide 16 year old applicants about safe riding habits. Also follow the traffic rules and law.
