Pakistan First Self-Driving AI-Powered Car Test

Pakistan has announce its first self-driving Ai-powered car test. Engineers at NED University of Engineering and Technology have achieved a major technological milestone by successfully testing Pakistan’s first artificial intelligence (AI)‑powered driverless car. The autonomous vehicle smoothly navigated roads within the university campus during a trial run, impressing students, faculty, and visitors.

The project led by the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) at NED University. Began nearly a year ago with the aim of transforming a China‑imported electric vehicle into a self‑driving car using cutting‑edge technologies. This includes AI, robotics, advanced sensors, mapping systems, and computer vision algorithms. According to Dr. Muhammad Khurram, Director of the NCAI and head of the development team, the car has now reached a mature testing phase.

The team has successfully implemented steering control. And is now focused on enhancing capabilities such as object detection, lane recognition, speed‑limit detection, and traffic signal interpretation. All key components of fully autonomous driving. Currently, the vehicle is programmed to operate at speeds of 15–20 km/h. And its advanced sensors allow it to handle complex conditions including potholes, uneven roads, and oncoming traffic. These are challenges that are common on Pakistani roads.

The successful test marks a historic step for Pakistan’s automotive technology and AI research. This showcasing the growing capabilities of local engineers and innovators. Organizers say this breakthrough could pave the way for more advanced autonomous vehicle applications in the future and contribute to the country’s wider adoption of smart transportation systems.
