
Murree Road expansion project RDA give update. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a significant revision to the long‑planned Murree Road expansion project. Redefining its scope and budget to better address growing traffic concerns along one of the city’s busiest corridors. The Murree Road corridor is a key artery for commuters, linking Rawalpindi to Islamabad and serving thousands of vehicles daily. Authorities hope the expanded design will support smoother travel, reduce congestion, and improve the overall transportation infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.
Under the revise plan, the road widening between Liaquat Bagh and Chandni Chowk a critical stretch that experiences heavy congestion daily will now be expand from 15 feet to 20 feet on both sides. This change aims to enhance traffic flow and improve commuter experience in the densely populated stretch connecting Rawalpindi to Islamabad. Along with the increased width, the estimated cost of the project has also more than doubled. Originally pegged at around Rs. 8 billion, the RDA now estimates the project will cost approximately Rs. 17 billion due to the expanded scope and additional land requirements.
According to RDA officials, the updated proposal has send to the Punjab government for final approval and inclusion in the Annual Development Programme (ADP). Once approved and funded, land acquisition and detailed engineering designs will move forward, with construction expected to begin soon. Officials also highlighted that the project includes plans for service roads on both sides of the main carriageway, which are expect to make the stretch from Marrir Chowk to Faizabad signal‑free, greatly reducing stop‑and‑go traffic and easing local movement.
One plaza is plan at Benazir Bhutto Hospital on five kanals of land, with a project cost of Rs. 1.4 billion and capacity for 480 vehicles. Another five-storey parking plaza is proposed at Commercial Market Rawalpindi, estimate to cost Rs. 2.6 billion, accommodating 700 vehicles and 100 shops as a combined commercial and parking facility.
