Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired an important meeting to review progress on the province’s flagship road sector projects. Including Swat Motorway Phase II, the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, and the Dir Motorway. He instructed authorities to resolve all technical and administrative issues without delay. Swat Motorway Phase-II will extend 80 kilometers from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The project includes nine interchanges and seven bridges at various locations over the Swat River.
The chief minister also indicated that the government will soon lay the foundation stone of the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway. The 365-kilometer-long motorway will include 19 interchanges and two tunnels. The government will complete both the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway. And Swat Motorway Phase II under a public-private partnership model. For the Dir Motorway, the meeting decided in principle that the provincial government will construct the project entirely using provincial resources.
While specific timelines and funding details for these projects are yet to be fully finalize. The provincial government’s move marks a significant step toward modernising KP’s transportation network and accelerating regional growth. Officials said that Swat Motorway Phase II and the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway are likely to be develope through public‑private partnerships (PPP), allowing private investment to support large‑scale infrastructure delivery. Meanwhile, the Dir Motorway will be built directly by provincial authorities.

Chief Minister Afridi encouraged departments to resolve legal and administrative hurdles quickly so that construction can begin without delay. He highlighted road connectivity as a priority for the government, stressing that improved motorways will not only make travel faster and safer but also stimulate economic activity, attract investment, and open up remote regions to development.
New Motorways Routes
Swat Motorway Phase II: An extension of the existing Swat Motorway that will stretch approximately 80 kilometres from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. Featuring multiple interchanges and bridges designed to improve travel and safety for residents of the Malakand region.
Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway: A 365‑kilometre route planned to link the provincial capital Peshawar with southern districts. Passing through several key areas and enhancing connectivity across the province.
Dir Motorway: A project aimed at connecting remote and mountainous parts of the province. Which the government plans to finance using provincial resources to ensure rapid development in hard‑to‑reach areas.
