PSL announce PSL auction or draft decision. In a historic move for Pakistan cricket’s premier T20 competition, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has announced that a player auction system will be introduced for the first time ahead of its 11th season. Marking a major shift from the traditional draft-based model used in previous years.
The landmark decision emerged after extensive discussions within the PSL Governing Council. Which brought together representatives of all eight franchises, senior officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). And league management at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The council concluded that moving to a full auction format rather than sticking with the draft or a hybrid “drauction” model would better reflect market forces and help drive player valuations based on demand.
This major change comes as PSL prepares for Season 11, which is scheduled to begin on March 26, 2026. And will feature eight teams for the first time following the addition of the Hyderabad and Sialkot franchises. According to insiders, the auction model is expected to allow teams to bid for players in a competitive environment. Potentially increasing remuneration for both local and international talent. Discussions are still underway to finalize rules around player retention, squad size, auction categories. And spending limits before the system is officially rolled out.
PSL’s move to a full auction system represents a significant evolution in how teams will be assembled and is being hailed by many as a step toward aligning the league with other major T20 franchises around the world. Enthusiasts and stakeholders are now watching closely as PCB puts the final pieces in place ahead of the upcoming season.
