Muharram Moon Sighted in Pakistan – Ashura to Be Observed on Sunday July 6

Muharram Moon Sighted in Pakistan – Ashura to Be Observed on Sunday July 6 The crescent moon marking the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH has been sighted in Pakistan, officially commencing the Islamic New Year. Consequently, 1st Muharram will fall on Thursday, June 27, 2025, and Ashura (10th Muharram) will be observed on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

The announcement was made by Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, during a press conference in Quetta. The moon-sighting meeting was held under his leadership, where testimony from various regions confirmed the crescent’s visibility.

Earlier, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had indicated that weather conditions in Quetta were dusty, but the possibility of moon sighting remained high if conditions improved.

The month of Muharram, one of the four sacred months in Islam, holds immense religious significance, especially for the observance of Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.
