State Bank announces statement on Pakistani banknotes Eid update 2026. As Eid approaches, many Pakistanis traditionally hope to receive fresh. And crisp currency notes from banks to use as Eidi and for festive spending. However, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has confirmed that newly redesigned currency notes will not be available by this Eid.

SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad clarified that although new designs for all denominations from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5,000 have been prepared, they still require approval from the federal cabinet before printing can begin. Because this approval process and subsequent printing will take time. The redesigned notes won’t be ready in time for the upcoming Eid festivities. The central bank had earlier submitted the proposed designs to the federal government, and once approved. It plans to introduce the new notes gradually in circulation. Enhanced security features are expected to be part of the redesigned series, aimed at reducing counterfeiting and strengthening currency integrity.

While the new notes won’t be ready for Eid this year, the SBP stressed that it will proceed with the issuance once cabinet clearance is granted and printing is complete. A process that could extend beyond the festival period. In the meantime, people can still obtain fresh existing notes from commercial banks in the usual way, though these are not part of the new design series. For previous Eid celebrations, the SBP has issued clean, standard notes through bank branches and ATMs to help people meet festive cash needs.
