The launch of the electric bus service in Lahore marks a significant step towards modernization in Punjab. Under the Green Punjab Vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Electro SPL-218 bus service will commence on February 15, 2025.In the first phase, 27 electric buses will be introduced in Lahore, benefiting 17,000 passengers daily. This initiative aims to make the Electro Bus Service environmentally friendly by installing 1MW solar systems at four charging depots. Additionally, the service will provide Wi-Fi and mobile charging facilities to passengers.To ensure world-class, modern, safe, and eco-friendly travel, the service will eventually accommodate 20,000 passengers daily. A 30-kanal bus depot will be constructed for the charging, washing, and parking of buses.Special arrangements have been made for the convenience of disabled and elderly passengers, including the provision of wheelchairs and dedicated seating. To enhance women’s safety, CCTV cameras will be installed in all buses. This initiative reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to public service, spearheaded by Maryam Nawaz in collaboration with the Punjab Transport Company. The ultimate goal is to achieve a smog-free Punjab through sustainable and modern transportation solutions.
