Previously, bread and naan prices had already risen significantly at tandoors in the federal capital, Islamabad. The Capital Nanbai Association of Islamabad announced an increase in bread and naan prices. The President of the Capital Nanbai Association stated that selling bread and naan at old rates is impossible given the current economic conditions.

The price of a sack of fine flour, which was previously 7,300 PKR, has surged to 9,000 PKR. Similarly, the cost of a 79 kg sack of red flour has increased from 6,800 PKR to 8,400 PKR. Additionally, the price of LPG has risen by 50 PKR per kilogram. As a result, it has been announced that starting from July 10th, the price of bread in Islamabad will be 25 PKR, and naan will be 30 PKR.

In a surprising development, withholding tax has been imposed on bread for the first time in Pakistan’s 70-year history. The Chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association revealed that the withholding tax will add 8 PKR to the price of each kilogram of flour. The government is urged to reconsider this tax on bread to alleviate the burden on ordinary consumers.
